Fountain Central’s girls basketball team lost a heartbreaker in the opening round of the Bi-County Tournament. McKenna Chapman hit a buzer-beater to lift Covington past the Mustangs 37-36. 

Mackenzy Linville led Fountain Central with 15 points and 9 rebounds.

Fountain Central falls to 3-11, and will return to action today at home against Attica at 2:30 p.m.

Crawfordsville concluded the Lafayette Jeff duals on Friday with their best finish ever at 8-2. The Athenians went 3-2 on Friday with victories over Rossville 54-17, Clinton Central 60-21, and Central Catholic 60-18. They were defeated by New Prairie 42-29, and Lafayette Jeff 45-31.

Logan Sandlin went 5-0 on the day at 126, finishing the tournament with an overall record of 9-1. Douglas Ramsey was 4-1 at 132, and 8-2 overall, while Anthony Cook was a perfect 5-0 at 152, finishing 6-2 for the tournament. Richard Pan was 3-2 on the day at 138, finishing 8-2. At 195, Thomas Weir was 3-2 and 8-2 overall, while Chadd Ervin was 3-2 and 7-3 overall at 285.

“Our regulars all got some tough matches in and some picked up a loss or two vs. tough competition,” Crawfordsville coach Chris Ervin said. “Those tough matches are what will make us better prepared for conference, sectional, and beyond.”

The Athenians will be back in action on Thursday, at home against Fountain Central at 6:30 p.m.

The Wabash basketball team suffered its first loss of the season Friday evening in an 83-80 contest against Wilmington College in the opening round of the 2018 Kiwanis Holiday Classic held at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. The Little Giants (10-1) took a 37-35 lead into the half, but the Quakers opened the half on a long run to take a 50-41, and held on to win after Wabash came back to tie it at 78-78. Abdul Kanu gave Wilmington the lead for good with three free throws in the final minute. Jack Davidson led the Little Giants with 36 points, while Harrison Hallstrom added 15. Wabash will play Bryant and Stratton College on Saturday at 2:15 p.m.
